The 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related meetings were held in Vientiane, Laos, from Oct 9 to 11. The China-Laos joint venture Electricite du Laos Transmission Company Limited (EDL-T) ensured the safe and stable operation of Laos' main power grid and successfully completed the task of ensuring stable power supply during this event.
EDL-T, a joint venture between China Southern Power Grid Lancang-Mekong International Co., Ltd. (CSG-LMI) and the Electricite du Laos (EDL) established under the supervision of the Laotian government, is responsible for investing in, constructing and operating Laos' 230 kV and above power grid as well as cross-border interconnection projects with neighboring countries.
This task marked the first power supply guarantee work at a major international conference for EDL-T since its official operation. To ensure a stable power supply during the conference, EDL-T, CSG-LMI, CSG Yunnan Kunming Power Supply Bureau, and Laotian partners established a coordinated mechanism, held regular consultations, and strengthened communication.
CSG-LMI collaborated closely with EDL-T to establish a task force to ensure a stable power supply. They deployed 307 people for inspections and maintenance, compiled lists of key equipment and potential defects, and implemented differentiated operation and maintenance strategies along with defect elimination plans for equipment of power supply in advance. During the summits, CSG-LMI, in conjunction with EDL, conducted inspections and maintenance of key power transmission and transformer equipment, effectively ensuring the healthy operation of the power grid.
Furthermore, during the preparation and implementation of the power supply guarantee work, CSG conducted five technical exchange and training sessions with EDL and the Vientiane Power Company, enhancing mutual understanding and trust and facilitating collaboration on solutions to improve the reliability of Laos' power grid.
